July is here once again ushering in Independence Day celebrations. Huntington Bicycle Club's Gold Coast Tour will fall on the 11th this year and even if you decide not to officially ride with the Tour, if you are headed north along the routes we usually travel, you will be riding with the masses that usually ride this popular tour. The LIBC Party at L.I.B.C is on the 18th, no lunch stop is scheduled for the day for the day. I hope you will attend this event as it has been highly successful social event - food, beer and soft drinks abound.
Saturday, July 3
Joan Irwin (516) 783-1993. We're starting off the month with a trip to Bethpage. Joan is practicing up for her around-the-world bike trip and has become a very strong rider. This version of the Bethpage ride is definitely not a flat ride so gear up for 40+ miles.
Sunday, July 4
Roll your own. Come out to the lot if you can, I'm sure we'll put together a ride to satisfy all available.
Saturday, July 10
Al Rutsky (516) 627-7496. It's the Dealer's Choice and Al's the dealer. Al has been leading plenty of rides this season, each one stronger and longer and more imaginative then the last. Pay attention fellow riders and you won't get lost. 35-40 miles, maybe more rarely less.
Sunday, July 11
Clare Schwartz (516) 627-7496. Just an old-fashioned standard ride - not too fast, and not too slow; not too long, and not too short.32-35 miles.
Saturday, July 17
Bill Arnold (516) 783-1993. Bill is new to the group and to ride leading. Don't be fooled, Bill is a strong rider and he'll keep you sweating to keep up. Bayville is a strong possibility. - 35 miles.
Sunday, July 18
George Cutler (516) 829-1924. It's George's turn and his imagination is churning to see what might be new and possibly even different. Another fine ride is in the offing. No lunch stop planned because of the LIBC party - bring along those Power Bars or maybe George will make a fast stop for drinks. Rarely less than 38 miles.
Saturday, July 24
George Stafford - (516) 766-3813. We're heading back to Bethpage with a new route. George promises there will be no hills with his latest version of the Bethpage ride that he says is going to be flat. Either George and Clara are going to be out there Friday night with the steam roller, flattening the route on Friday night, or George is going to hypnotize everyone as we leave the lot and we'll all swear that the Cold Spring Hills area was flat. 35 - 40 very flat miles
Sunday, July 25
Irma Klein (718) 261-8760. The ball's in my corner again. The Gold Coast Tour revisited. The Huntington Bicycle Club was nice enough to paint all those Gold G/C's on the road and while they are still fresh on the ground from the tour which took place on the 11th. Let's do a Mini-version of the tour using segments of both 50 and 65-mile routes. Some hills and great scenery. 35-40 miles.
Saturday, July 31
Brenda Walker (516) 285-4406. Brenda's plan is to follow the Gold Coast Tour's 100-mile segment from our area. This ride was researched and dubbed the Sands Point Pedal by Joan Irwin, however, everyone who leads the ride adds a new twist. 36 Miles.
